Update of 01.11.2024:

Yesterday (31.10.2024) OpenAI announced the opening of search within ChatGPT to the public. We’ve created an article on LinkedIn where you can find out more about the launch of SearchGPT and how you can optimize to appear in ChatGPT.

ChatGPT3 – explained

Chat GPT is a conversational tool based on artificial intelligence, in other words: it’s an AI chatbot!

It is based on an advanced language model that uses artificial intelligence and has become extremely popular since its launch on November 30, 2022.

GPT-3 chat is the artificial intelligence behind the UI (user interface), trained specifically to hold conversations and is the brainchild of the non-profit organization Open AI, which was created in 2015 by Sam Altman, Elon Musk and other investors with the aim of extending recent research into the practical use of artificial intelligence.

For many, this GPT-3 chat technology is a quantum leap forward in the previously used NLP (Natural Language Processing) processes.

GPT stands for Generative Pre-Trained Transformer.
According to IBM, NLP refers to the branch of computer science – and more specifically, the branch of artificial intelligence or AI – focused on giving computers the ability to understand text and spoken words in the same way as human beings.

NLP combines computational linguistics – rule-based modeling of human language – with statistical models, machine learning and deep learning.

Together, these technologies allow computers to process human language in the form of text or voice data and “understand” its meaning, including the intention and sentiment of the speaker or writer.

In short: GPT-3 chat is advanced software that understands and responds to text or voice requests (data) – formulating contextualized responses in text or via voice synthesizers in the same way a human would.

Are we finally looking at a chatbot that interacts like a human being?

The extraordinary thing is that it does so with great precision and can (will) be used for various applications – some good and unfortunately, some bad!

Watch a video on how to test this technology.

Have fun!

Advantages and disadvantages of GPT Chat
Direct quote from OpenAi itself:

“We have trained a model called ChatGPT that interacts in a conversational way.

The dialog format allows ChatGPT to answer follow-up questions, admit its mistakes, challenge incorrect assumptions and reject inappropriate requests.

ChatGPT is a sister model to InstructGPT, which is trained to follow an instruction via a prompt and provide a detailed response.”

Main benefits of GPT Chat
A chatbot that not only answers questions, but can also perform various tasks as long as they are presented as written commands:

summarizing long texts,
annotating memos
essay writing
language translation,
code creation,
and many other applications yet to be tested…
We can easily see GPT Chat being used as a customer support or sales pre-qualification bot, with a humanized touch.

Through security presets, including advanced content filters and permanent learning, it has great potential for filtering out bad language and conversation that can be used on a large scale.

Main disadvantages or precautions to take with GPT Chat
As the tool itself (still in beta) indicates on the home page:

it can generate incorrect information,
can produce harmful information,
can produce biased information,
is unaware of recent facts relevant to the questions posed because it has limited knowledge of events after 2021 (it was only fed with data until the end of 2021).
They don’t have access to real-time data (yet) or the ability to browse the internet and look for answers, so it’s not, at least for now, a substitute for search engines.
In any case, the tool can be expected to improve and learn to correct some of its current limitations more adequately.

Are we moving towards the introduction of machines into the realm of what we thought was closed to them? A machine capable of creating and maintaining a meaningful relationship with human beings?

Only time will tell!
